All copies of the 1922 silent film Nosferatu were ordered destroyed, with one copy surviving the purge and living on to become something of a cult hit.
Ok, that sounds creepier than it actually is Nosferatu was simply an unauthorised adaption of Bram Stoker's Dracula and his family sued the Nosferatu filmmakers, the court ruling all copies of the film were to be destroyed. Still, it's regarded as a hugely influential cinematic experience and horror-buffs everywhere will recognise the iconic scene where Count Orlok creeps up the stairwell toward Thomas Hutter's beautiful wife, Ellen.
